Hylton Ukes was formed in September 2014 by a group of ukulele enthusiasts whose mission was to bring the joy of ukulele playing to a wide group of local people. Included in the group were elderly, isolated and disdvantaged residents. The aims were two-fold, the first being to integrate into the group those who were able to attend meetings and wanted to learn to play the ukulele. The second aim was to perform at places where those unable to attend met in order to bring the joy of music into their lives. No fees or charges have ever been made to ensure the maximum number of disadvantaged people were included. To date many people have been taught to play or have been entertained by the group. The group have performed on numerous occasions both locally and wider afield.  Our ability to provide this service has been achieved through considerable assistance from Cultural Spring, who have not only supplied funding, but also expertise in many areas and the Awards For All scheme through funding. We are grateful for their assistance. As we enter our 6th year we continue to thrive.
